Mount Gerizim is one of the two mountains rising above the West Bank City of Nablus. Gerizim forms the southern side of the valley and Mt Ebal the north. In Samaritan tradition, Mt Gerizim is held to be the highest, oldest and most central mountain in the world.
Kiryat Luza, the samaritan village shown in this series is situated on the mountain ridge. The mountain is sacred to the Samaritans, believing it to be the place chosen by Yahweh for the holy temple, rather than Jerusalem's temple mount.
Mt Gerizim is the centre for the samaritan people to this day, over 90% of the worldwide population of 796 live here.
